Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has chosen the
International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) to plan
a program to ensure the presence of
computers connected to Internet,
in public libraries in Romania, and
available to open public.
IREX - Romania had intended to explore possibilities and
create a plan by which public libraries provide free
access to computers, internet and training
services for the communities
in which they operates.
also facilitate the process of
it will conduct pilot projects
in five counties to test the various ways in which
libraries can provide these services and courses.
Salaj County Library was selected for this pilot project
with a total of 3 libraries: Library I.S.
Bădescu Salaj with 2
centers (Section of Adult
Rental, Pensioners Club), the
city library and
Bobota common library.
The first Internet center in the country under this
program was opened
at the Pensioners Club,
where the county Library has
opened a book lending point,
Fascination for virtuality,
enthusiasm for the use of this
technology combined with a
desire of this category of
users to assimilate new knowledge, shows that opening
the center was a real SUCCESS
